Girls try-out for JAVA at any age. In 2010, JAVA formed a Junior JAVA team consisting of girls under the age of 12. For specifics on age definitions please reference the USA Volleyball Age Classifications.
Seek sponsors. JAVA provides sponsorship forms for players to request donations from individuals or businesses. The sponsorship form serves as a receipt for donors to use as proof of donation to a non-profit organization for tax purposes. Visit the forms link to print a sponsorship form.
JAVA provides one [blue or black] jersey and an Asics duffle bag. Both items are signed for at the beginning of the season and must be returned at the culmination of the season. Players are required to purchase their own socks and knee pads. JAVA will take orders for Spandex which the player will pay for and can keep. NEW FOR 2012 - JAVA will provide one jersey (in addition to a blue/black jersey) with player's name on the back. Player will keep this jersey.
A minimum of 8 players and no more than 10 players will be chosen based on skill level, attitude and ability to understand roles as well as concepts of being a team player. No more than 9 players will be selected for Elite teams.
Only the Board of Directors and Coach Administrator have the discretion of moving player(s) up from their age group. Girls will try-out at the age level they qualify for under USA Volleyball age category definitions and upon evaluation, will be asked to move up if it is warranted.
Yes, unfortunately, there are cuts. However, girls are placed on a waiting list and if they so choose they may attend skills sessions during the week. In the event a space opens on a team, "waiting list" players may be asked to join a team at the discretion of the Board of Directors or Coach Administrator.
A continual source of frustration for players and parents is the issue of playing time. JAVA guarantees a "fair" amount of playing time for every player. This does not necessarily mean "equal."
More playing time is earned by regularly attending practices, attending tournaments, working hard to improve skills, fostering team relationships, demonstrating good sportsmanship, cooperating and communicating with the coach and executing the skills when given the opportunity.
Absolutely not. Parents are not permitted to approach the coach about concerns during the game. Parents may contact the coach 24 hours after the last game of the tournment to discuss their child's concerns or other issues.
If the matter can not be resolved between the coach and the parent, then the club director(s) can intervene to offer a solution.
The parent's role is one of support to the players, coaches and club as a whole. Parents should not engage in "coaching" from the sidelines, criticize players, coaches or game officials to attempt to influence the operation of the team at any time.
Failure to follow these guidelines may result in suspension from future practices and/or tournaments at the discretion of the Board of Directors.
14U - 18U Minimum [5]/Maximum [7] 1-day
